A Message from Sarah Stedtefeld Chief, Dealer Licensing Section Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Ohio Department of Public Safety
Thursday, March 19, 2020
Good Morning,
As you may know, the Governor announced that all public, in-person transactions are suspended at 181 Deputy Registrar License agencies, effective end of day March 18, 2020. At each agencies discretion, however, they have been advised they can continue fleet and dealer transactions on a drop-off/pick-up basis only. Dealer and fleet runners are not permitted to wait inside the agency during processing. You may work with your preferred deputy registrar to set procedures.
Furthermore, some County Clerk of Court Title offices have either closed completely, have limited hours and limited services. Please work with your preferred title office to set procedures.
The issuance of temporary tags is being discussed and further information will come later today in another email.
The Dealer Licensing Section and the Ohio Department Of Public Safety are at minimum staffing levels due to the instruction of Governor Mike DeWine. Please expect to experience delays in both phone, email response and application processing. With half of the motor vehicle dealers and auction owners expiring on March 31st, our first priority is to ensure all renewal applications get processed in a timely manner. All other applications will be processed accordingly. Please encourage dealers to use Dealer Online Services to access available online transactions.
All these decisions have been made after serious consideration of the best available information relative to the health and safety of our network of partners, staff members, and the public at large. Today’s action is being taken to expand current statewide risk mitigation strategies for preventing the spread of the Corona virus – 19.
Sincerely,
Sarah Stedtefeld Chief, Dealer Licensing Section 1970 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43223 www.OhioAutoDealers.com
