The Seminar...

Wage and hour issues continue to be one of the main areas of non-compliance for U.S. companies. The Department of Labor and plaintiff's lawyers are creating havoc for businesses due to the difficulty of complying with these complex regulations. The OADA attorneys receive calls on the legal hotline on a daily basis regarding HR issues:  "Do I have to pay Jane overtime?" "How do I garnish John's wages correctly, and under what circumstances?" These are questions that you struggle with every day, and OADA and Fisher Phillips are here to help.

This seminar, presented by Rich Millisor and Jazmyn Stover of Fisher Phillips, LLP, will focus on several wage and hour issues. These include:

  • Wage and hour issues for managers
  • Specific dealership exemptions to overtime requirements (state and federal)
  • Service tech pay plans and overtime exemptions
  • Definition of compensable working time
  • Special considerations when hiring minors

They will also cover the intricacies of commission pay plans for a dealership's sales staff, and provide best practices relating to those pay plans specifically for automobile dealers. They will also explain how to use the plans to incentivize sales efforts while making sure that the dealership is legally protected.

Do you have a question about whether or not your drivers are independent contractors? Attend the seminar and you'll have that question answered as well, along with best practices for using independent contractors. We will also tackle counter-intuitive application of exemptions to F&I managers, lube technicians, detailers, and painters.

Ms. Stover will be covering the topic of wage garnishments, which can sometimes be a daunting task for HR professionals. Topics such as the stacking rules, priority payment rules, and the calculation of maximum garnishment amounts will be covered.

This program is specifically designed to be hands on, and user friendly. We encourage you not only to attend and learn, but to bring your most difficult issues and questions to Rich Millisor and Jazmyn Stover, who are part of the Auto Dealership practice group at Fisher Phillips, LLP, a national management-side labor and employment law firm.
