OADA Seminar: Takin' Care of Business: Navigating Tricky H.R. Issues At Your Dealership

The Course

This training program is designed to provide dealer principals, human resource professionals, supervisors, and managers with the information and skills needed to effectively manage HR-related obligations, including handling employee leaves and accommodation issues, and avoiding the numerous and ever-changing legal pitfalls present in the workplace. Over the 4-hour presentation, we will discuss topics such as:

1.  Managing Employee Leaves of Absence.  How to navigate and comply with the Family and Medical Leave Act, workers' compensation leave, pregnancy/childbirth leave issues, and the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).

2.  Identifying and Responding to Employee Complaints and Workplace Concerns.  Talking about harassment and the #metoo movement; drug and alcohol testing and dealing with Ohio's legalization of marijuana; dealing with gender identity/transgender issues including those in the bathroom and discussion of the recent federal court decision affecting Ohio; and workplace violence, including changes under Ohio law regarding employees with concealed carry permits.

3.  Documenting the HR File.  Creating and reviewing personnel files; guidelines for reference checks; reviewing record retention policies; and the most common wage and hour issues for Dealers.

4.  Employment and Labor Law Developments under the Trump Administration.

Our Presenter

Melanie Webber is a partner in the Cleveland office of Fisher Phillips, a nationwide labor and employment law firm. Melanie is a frequent speaker for OADA and advises employers regarding positive, pro-active employment relations programs including employee opinion surveys, employment practice audits, and supervisory training. She also assist employers with preventive, internal human resource practice and wage-hour audits. Melanie frequently lectures on a variety of employment law issues including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), sexual harassment and maintaining union-free status. Previously, Melanie worked in human resources management for seven years at two Northeast Ohio area manufacturing companies.

The registration fee for this seminar is $150 per participant. If you cancel your registration three business days in advance of the seminar, you will receive a full refund. Last minute cancellations and no-shows will receive the course materials in light of tuition paid, but will not be refunded.
