2020 Webinar Series

Your purchase of the 2020 Titling Manual includes access to OADA's 3-part Titling Webinar series. Over the course of 4 hours (spread out over three weeks), we will have an in-depth discussion on the pressing topics title clerks face. The 3-part webinar series includes:

Session 1:  Titling 101 - Understanding the Basics of the Title Transfer Process and Titling Resources

Thursday, October 15, 2020
11:00AM to 12:30PM

In this session, OADA legal counsel is joined by staff at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to provide a brief update on the changes since the last titling seminar as well as an introductory course on the basics of titling. This includes an overview of a title's format and appearance, what is required to transfer a certificate of title, reviewing common titling scenarios, and providing helpful titling resources. Finally, the webinar will end with a live demonstration of Ohio's Electronic Titling Link with the team at DealerTrack, the BMV's technology provider, to show how simple and easy it is to adopt electronic titling at your dealership.

Session 2:  Dealing with the Second of Life's Certainties - Taxes

Thursday, October 22, 2020
11:00AM to 12:15PM

Benjamin Franklin told us that there are two certainties in the world - death and taxes. In the second session, we dive into the second certainty as OADA is joined by the experts at the Ohio Department of Taxation to provide a brief overview of Ohio's sales tax provisions affecting motor vehicle transactions and a dealership's obligation to collect and remit Ohio sales taxes. We will also take a deep dive into how to appropriately handle nonresident transactions and common concerns and scenarios that dealerships face. Finally, we will review common scenarios with those in active duty military.

Session 3:  Tackling Common Titling Headaches

Thursday, November 5, 2020
11:00AM to 12:15PM

In the final session, OADA is joined by a representative from the Ohio Attorney General's Office to address the most common titling question:  "How long do I have to title the vehicle?" We will discuss the Title Defect Rescission Fund and your dealership's obligations to provide title within the proper time frame and representatives from BMV will join us to discuss common headaches, such as lien issues, transactions involving minors, abandoned vehicles, demonstrator best practices, and a few others.
